Friday May 29
Try to submit your responses to the Daedalus readings today.
Now let's get creative! For Media Literacy, create a power point or google slide show of one of the myths we read so far. Simplify the story in your own words to highlight the main events. Integrate the image and text on each page - minimum of 5 pages. Think picture book! Find your images on-line - some tips regarding images: check the file size - too small will have poor resolution, choose jpeg format - most easily transferred. Keep in mind readability of the text - in colour, size and amount and it's relationship to the image.
Include a title slide!
Deadline will be on-going - start this weekend and see how far you get.

I'll be returning your essays as soon as I can read them all - please submit if you haven't done so already.
Today we will move on to a well-known Greek Myth - King Midas and the Golden Touch. I have a attached a file with 2 versions of the story on it. Your job is to read both and decide which one you prefer. And most importantly, why do you prefer it. Consider not just the details of the story, but also the style, involving word choice, sentence structure and so on. Give a detailed answer with references to the text and submit by Wednesday for assessment.

I've only seen a few outlines this weekend! Perhaps you are struggling??
Here are some tips - after reading both stories you need to decide which is more important or significant, the similarities or the differences. This will make your thesis stronger. See the example in the handout with some suggestions on writing a strong thesis.
The next thing is to choose three features of both stories that have enough points to each make an interesting paragraph. Those are the hard parts. The rest is filling in with your points - of course you will have to write super fantastic, descriptive complex sentences, but you'll get to that.
For those who have had me check your outlines, go on to writing a rough draft.
Please send me a copy of the rough draft by Wednesday May 13

I look forward to checking your outlines for you over the weekend. On Monday, after receiving feedback, we will start on the rough copies of the Comparison essay.
In the meantime, here is some grammar practice to help your writing. The following worksheet contains real Grade 8 sentences that are somewhat less than perfect grammatically. Re-write them correctly and submit when complete.

Now that you have a good understanding of the two Creation stories (by summarizing them), let's move on to creating the outline for a Compare and Contrast Essay. I've included an attachment which explains the structure I would like you to use for your essay and for the outline. This will take a while to organize so I'd like to see a copy of your outline by Friday - it could be handwritten or a digital copy. If you have trouble with the pdf version then I've attached images of the file as well.
